Welcome to the Double D Ranch! We are a small family run farm on the outskirts of Nashville. We specialize in rare and traditional breeds of poultry. We are new to poultry, but they have take are hearts. They are like chips, you can’t just have one… can you?
As this journey has continued, we have been educated on the job and on the Internet about chickens. This is a long journey and it has just begun. Our goal is to breed only the best we can and as close to the APA Standards as we understand them. We want to have SOP breeders and want to sell the best eggs, chicks and started birds that we can.
Our breeds have changed since we started our little farm. I am sure they will change as we evaluate our goals for the farm and chickens. Every chicken is not perfect, but if you start with good quality, your journey to your goals will be quicker. If you don’t take anything else from my site remember this… it does not cost you much more to have good quality stock than it does to have poorer quality hatchery stock. Even in chickens you get what you pay for… not that you should have to pay a fortune either. High price does not equate QUALITY either.
Before you buy any birds, do some research about the breed you are looking into. Study them, what they should look like (usually breeds will have a club and that site should have some pictures of nice show quality birds) make a list of what you should look at closely so when you go to buy you will have a check list of must haves and really wants. This will help you more than you know.
Again WELCOME and have a look around! If you have any questions you can email us and we will try to help.
